Provably Fair Prize Draws

VEWRS prize draws are provably fair. You do not have to take our word that a draw was random — anyone can independently verify that the winner was chosen fairly, using public information that no one, including VEWRS, can fake or control.
Why This Matters
Most prize draws ask you to simply trust the organiser. You never see how the winner was chosen, and you have no way to check that it was not rigged.
VEWRS draws are mathematically verifiable. The winner is decided by a public source of randomness that nobody — including VEWRS — can predict or influence, and every entry is locked in before that randomness exists. The result can be checked by anyone, at any time.
How It Works
1. Every entry is recorded the moment you earn it
Each entry you earn — by checking in and taking part — is given its own unique number and logged immediately, long before any draw takes place. This builds a permanent, ordered list of every entry in the draw.
2. The draw is locked in before the random number exists
When it is time to draw, VEWRS publishes a tamper-proof fingerprint of the full list of entries and commits to a specific future random number — one that has not been generated yet. Because the commitment is made before the number exists, there is no way to cherry-pick a favourable outcome.
3. An independent public beacon picks the winner
The random number comes from drand, a global randomness beacon run by a network of separate organisations that produces a fresh, unpredictable value on a fixed public schedule. Once it appears, that value is combined with the locked-in list of entries to select the winning entry number.
Why It Cannot Be Rigged
- VEWRS does not control the randomness. The winning number is driven by drand, an independent public source that VEWRS can neither predict nor change.
- Nothing can be added or removed after the draw is locked in. The list of entries is fingerprinted and committed before the random number is known, so entries cannot be quietly added, removed, or reordered to change the result.
- Everything needed to check the result is public. The list fingerprint, the random value, and the method are all published, so the outcome is fully reproducible by anyone.
Verify It Yourself
After each draw, VEWRS publishes everything needed to reproduce the result:
- the fingerprint (hash) of the full pool of entries, and the total number of entries;
- the exact drand round and its published random value;
- the winning entry number.
Anyone can re-run the same open calculation — winning position = f(random value, pool fingerprint, pool size) — and confirm that it lands on the published winner.
Under the hood this is a commit–reveal scheme built on the drand public randomness beacon: the entry pool is committed before the beacon value is known, then the revealed value deterministically selects the winner.
